Backstory

Wyong Reserve is a large district park located near Manning Road in Bentley.

It is a well-used sports ground and the home of three local sporting clubs. The sports lighting for the oval was recently upgraded in 2019 to sports practice standards to encourage more evening use.

Whilst the park is well-used for sporting activities, the City recognises that the areas surrounding the oval need improvement to revitalise the parkland; activate unused spaces and provide new amenities that are more suitable and appealing to a broad range of users of all ages and backgrounds.

The improvements aim to provide better accessibility in and around the park, create attractive, fun and functional spaces that can be enjoyed by the local community as well as being complementary to the existing sporting facilities.

A Master Plan has been designed using feedback from the initial community survey in May 2021.

Overall, the feedback received indicated that the community welcomed the City’s intention to upgrade and revitalise the park with new and improved amenities.

Areas for improvement included the playground, hardcourt, exercise equipment and fencing and gates around the reserve. There was strong support for the perimeter fencing to remain in order to allow for dog exercising, and provide a sense of safety for park users.

The proposed master plan addresses the community’s preferences and proposes a number of features to enhance the overall appearance of the park; balance the needs of the sporting clubs and recreational users; and encourage increased use of the space.

One of the key features of the plan is the upgrade of the perimeter fencing and gates surrounding the reserve. This includes extending the fencing around the road edges of the Water Corporation’s compensation basin, which will be incorporated into the open space.

Other exciting features of the master plan include a larger playground that caters to a variety of ages; a larger multi-sport hardcourt; outdoor exercise equipment; a BBQ facility; and new seating and resting areas.

There will also be a new road crossing and pathways that will connect the park to the Bentley Primary School and surrounding paths.

What are the next steps

The Construction of the park is underway. It is scheduled to be completed by March 2023. Please check out our Wanju Bentley page for updates.
