UPDATE - 6/11/2018

Thank you for submitting comments regarding the Wilson Park Dog Exercise trial during the three month comment period which commenced on 1 August 2018 and closed on 1 November 2018. As planned, the dog exercise trial will continue to run until 31 March 2019.

Before the end of the trial a report on the feedback received in the comment period will be considered by Council to decide whether Wilson Park should continue as a an interim dog exercise area until the development of the Kent Street Weir precinct is completed. Wilson Park forms part of the Kent Street Weir precinct and the masterplan for the area currently shows a permanent dog exercise area as part of Wilson Park.

The City received many comments from the community about the trial, including suggestions on how to improve and enhance the area. As this is a trial, no upgrades to the area are planned at this stage. If Wilson Park is adopted as a dog exercise area, improvements to the area will be considered in line with the Kent Street Weir precinct masterplan. All feedback received will be included as an attachment to the future Council Report, however individuals’ names will be removed from the schedule of submissions. Watch this space.

What is happening?

Wilson Park will be trialled as a dog exercise area from 1 August 2018 to 31 March 2019.

What does this mean?

Dog exercise areas are public spaces where dogs can exercise off-leash with owners close by supervising. Dog owners must have control of their dog and be carrying and capable of attaching a suitable leash. As always, owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs.

What are we seeking?

The City is seeking comment from residents and park users during the first three months of the trial. Please provide your comments by 1 November 2018 comment box, story or quick poll below.

What happens next?

The community feedback will form a recommendation to Council to determine if Wilson Park should continue to be a dog exercise area after the trial.

Thanks to everybody for your feedback in relation to the Dog Exercise Park Trial.

We'd like to give you an update in relation to the high water table and resulting muddy areas at Wilson Park.

    Muddy areas

The City has extended the hard stand material to improve pedestrian access for the canoe transporters and those who wish to exercise their dogs.

    Gate access

The pedestrian gate adjacent to the main entry double access gates can now be opened and used by those wishing to enter Wilson Park immediately from the car park. This gate will be converted to be self closing.

Also repairs are being arranged to have the other broken gate refitted with more robust self-closing hinges.
