Speed Zones in the City of Canning
Engagement and Consultation Closed
The engagement and consultation phase of the program has now closed.
The City attended seven community events to speak to local communities about the project and received 581 responses to the survey (general and youth combined).
The City of Canning thanks everyone involved, including community members who participated in the engagement and consultation. We are now collating and analysing the data and aim to have a final report by mid- May 2021.
Background
The City of Canning is committed to making informed decisions by bringing the voices of our diverse communities and stakeholders together to discuss topics that are important to them.
The City is currently engaged in a strategic review of its Integrated Transport Strategy Element R8 - Speeds.
Whilst the City does not have the legal ability to change speed zones – this is the responsibility of Main Roads WA – it is our responsibility to ensure we are aware and feed back our community's views. No major decisions on speed limits will be implemented without further consultation with community and Main Roads WA.
This review will involve an analysis of industry trends inclusive of the current WA Road Safety Strategy and future directions.
January - 15 April the City of Canning invited community to share your views towards vehicle speeds on local streets via two surveys (general and youth).
The deadline for consultation and engagement was originally 9 April and due to the popularity of the project we extended the deadline to Thursday 15 April 2021.
