Project Update: 20 December 2018
Thanks to everyone who attended the Sir Albert Jennings Playground workshop on Sunday 16 December. The workshop provided a unique opportunity for local residents and children to have input in designing a new playground, soon to be installed at Sir Albert Jennings Park. The workshop saw over 40 people (including many children) work collaboratively together to come up with designs that they thought would make great new playgrounds. The five designs will be narrowed down to three and will be posted on this Your Say page for the community to vote on. The design with the most votes will go out to supply and construct in 2019.
Thanks again to everyone who came along and participated.
Project Background
The Sir Albert Jennings Park project was initiated by Chad Cameron, a 9 year old Willetton resident who wrote to Councillor Patrick Hall and Councillor Ben Kunze to see if they could improve the Sir Albert Jennings Park playground. Chad was featured on Today Tonight and an article was printed in the Canning Times featuring Chad and his work surveying his school friends and local community to understand what equipment would be preferred at the Park.
Although instigated by Chad, the City also wanted to engage the community to find out what type of play equipment you would like to see. The placemaking workshop was practical and allowed the attendees to design their ideal playground. Three designs will be shortlisted with the assistance of Chad and will go up on this website so that the community can vote for their favourite design. In the case of a draw, Chad will have the final decision.
This project will use an innovative approach to community engagement with Chad acting as a project Board member where he can influence the decisions as far as practical.
The design of the playground will be based on Chad’s submission and subsequent community engagement workshop with further input by Chad and the reference group.
The workshop was held on:
Sunday 16 December 2018
