Railway Parade and Hamilton Street
Low Cost Urban Road Safety Program
The City of Canning (City) and Main Roads Western Australia (MRWA) are working collaboratively on a new road safety initiative, the Low-Cost Urban Road Safety Program, to reduce the likelihood of crashes on local roads across the metropolitan area.
Low-cost road treatments will be applied to areas or entire streets to improve the safety of local roads and intersections. We want to reduce crashes and create a safer and more enjoyable environment for our community.
The next safety treatment is scheduled for Queens Park and will commence on Tuesday, 4 June 2024. The construction will be in the areas bounded by:
- Edward Street
- Treasure Road
- Railway Parade
- Hamilton Street.
What will this project include?
The following treatments and improvements are planned:
- constructing raised safety platforms (to reduce the speed of vehicles)
- re-constructing the median island on Hamilton Street between Railway Parade and Walton Street
- removing the existing temporary roundabout at the intersection of Walton Street and Hamilton Street.
These treatments will have high positive impacts on speed reduction and crash reduction, with some benefit to amenity in the area.
How will this impact you?
Construction commenced on Tuesday, 4 June 2024 with the works completed by Thursday, 11 July 2024. Upon completion of these works, the City will apply to MRWA for the installation of the new permanent road signs and line markings; MRWA can take approximately two months to install these, so the City will allow for road signs and line marking in the interim.
To complete the delivery and construction of this project, some temporary traffic management will be in place including, lane closures and short-term road closures. Specific details of any immediate impacts and disruptions will be communicated directly to affected businesses, residents and property owners via a separate notification letter.
Work will be carried out within the normal working hours of 7am and 4pm on weekdays and Saturdays, to reduce noise impacts. We understand this work may be disruptive to the local community and some traffic delays may be experienced, however we will make every effort to minimise disruption and thank you for your patience.
The City welcomes any information or enquiries you may have throughout the roadworks and delivery of this project.
