The Plastic Free July challenge encourages you to sign up for a day, a week or a month and take action by refusing items such as single-use plastics and excessive plastic packaging while remembering to use your reusables: shopping bag, water bottles, coffee cups and more.
While encouraging staff to sign up to the Plastic Free July challenge, the Strategic Waste team also wants to hear from you! Using the survey below, tell us ways in which you've reduced plastics in you life and how we can create solutions to reduce or eliminate plastic in the City of Canning.
At the end of July, we'll report back to you and share tips and tricks people have shared. A raffle will be drawn, with the prize being a signed copy of 'Plastic Free' by Plastic Free July founder and WA local Rebecca Prince-Ruiz.

Single-use items or disposable items are products and packaging that we throw out after only one use such as bottles, take away cups and containers, wrappers, straws, and bags. These items are used for only minutes but their impact on our environment can last thousands of years. Even when these items are recyclable, we use up energy and our environment’s natural resources to produce these easily-avoidable items.
The aim of Plastic Free July is not to force you to stop using all plastics, rather for you to take a look at how much single-use plastic you're using each day, week or month and discover better solutions with less environmental impact.
