At the 17 September 2024 Ordinary Council Meeting, Council endorsed the above-mentioned policies for public consultation. The policies were reviewed to align with recent changes in relevant planning legislation such as the Planning and Development (Local Planning Schemes) Regulations 2015 (the Regulations) and Residential Design Codes (R-Codes). The purpose of these changes was to improve planning process, reduce red tape and provide for better consistency between local governments.

Furthermore, the City also took the opportunity to correct errors or provide further clarification on some policy provisions. Maintaining Local Planning Policies ensures that development is in line with up-to-date planning practices and responsive to community needs.

The Local Planning Policies that were reviewed and are now open for public comment are:

  • LP.01 Residential Development
  • LP.02 Tree Retention and Planting – Development (Old Policy No. LP.09)
  • LP.04 Child Day Care Premises in Residential Area (Old Policy No. LP.11)
  • LP.05 Advertising Signs (Old Policy No. LP.07)
  • LP.11 Public Consultation of Planning Proposals (Old Policy No. LP.02)

The City is also proposing to revoke the following Local Planning Policies:

  • LP.04 – Exemptions from Development Approval
  • LP.05 – Bentley Regeneration Design Guidelines
  • LP.10 – Incentive-Based Development
  • LP.12 – Outbuildings and Sea Containers in Residential Areas
